Role Summary
The volunteers for Harriet’s Haven for Pets will assist with a variety of tasks that keep Harriet’s Haven
organized and running smoothly. Volunteers will provide a positive environment for dogs and cats as
well as for the individuals and families living at Tubman’s shelter for victims/survivors of relationship
violence. The Shelter and Harriet’s Haven are located at Tubman East in Maplewood.

Position Responsibilities
- Assist with keeping Harriet’s Haven for Pets clean and organized
- Attend to the basic needs of dogs and cats, including food, water, attention, and exercise
- Create a positive environment for individuals and families visiting and caring for their pets
- Build positive, safe, and friendly connections with residents, staff, and pets
- Openly communicate with supervisors, shelter team, and fellow volunteers
- Assist with other tasks that support Harriet’s Haven for Pets as needed
Position Qualifications
- Experience in and willingness to care for both cats and dogs
- Organized, friendly, reliable, hardworking, and non-judgmental
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, appropriate boundaries, and have good judgment
- Understand and work from Tubman’s set of values and philosophical approaches, including clientcentered, trauma
- informed and strength-based care
- Ability to engage with a diverse group of clients and team members with a demonstrated
commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion - Ability to lift 30 pounds
- Minimum of 16 years of age
Time Commitment & Availability
- One 2-hour shift each week with a minimum commitment of 9 months preferred
Supervision & Training
- Attend portions of Tubman’s orientation and training series
- Supervised by the Manager of Harriet’s Haven
