Basic Needs Action Team was established in 1996 to determine how to meet the needs of the disadvantaged within the community. It was decided that a community-based thrift store should be opened, where the general public could donate their gently used goods for resale, with proceeds benefiting those in need in the community.
Basic Needs Inc. of South Washington County applied for and received non-profit status [IRS 501 (c) (3)]. Basic Needs Thrift shop opened on September 7th, 1997.
In 2016, Basic Needs began providing voucher assistance to those lacking the funds to purchases basic household goods, furniture and clothing. The vouchers allow Basic Needs to provide these goods at no cost. We are proud to say that over the last 20 years, we have provided more than one million dollars’ worth of free merchandise to people in need.
Our Mission: To engage the community in supporting families and individuals by providing access to quality used clothes, household items and furniture in a convenient, dignified manner.
