Volunteer: Volunteer Driver with Community ThreadFor more than 50 years, Community Thread’s ride services program has relied on volunteers. In fact, the program is not possible without volunteers! With an increase in our older adult population and the growth in the need for local transportation solutions, your support couldn’t be more valuable than it is today. Volunteer Drivers provide an essential service to neighbors in central and northern Washington County. Are you ready to help in a simple, flexible way? Being a volunteer driver is truly flexible- as a driver, you have access to an online calendar of rides that your neighbors need, and with a click of the button, you sign up for the rides you can do!We expect at least a 3-day notice from a rider, so urgent requests are rare. You can plan ahead if that suits you best.Rides currently take place Mondays-Fridays from roughly 8am-5pm, but we are hoping to special requests for evenings and weekends soon. In any case, you choose when you can do rides. If there’s an emergency, we have a guide to help you deal with special scenarios, and our office staff can be available to support you.This role requires: 8 years of driving experience, a valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, proof of insurance, and ability to schedule rides using email and/or a simple online portal.As a Volunteer Driver, you will fulfill a large need in the community and provide social engagement for your neighbors- all with a flexible commitment.
