Volunteer: Pathway to Home Volunteer

Pathway to Home Volunteer Navigator

Minnesota Dignity Collaborative

A neighbor-to-neighbor way of walking alongside homelessness and housing instability.

Pathway to Home is a relational volunteer opportunity rooted in dignity, presence, and trust. Volunteers are matched with a neighbor who is experiencing homelessness or housing instability and walk alongside them over time, offering consistency, encouragement, genuine human connection, and practical help navigating housing-related resources and systems.

This work is about showing up.
Listening well.
Walking with someone as they take next steps, at their own pace.

You don’t need to have all the answers. What matters most is being present, reliable, and willing to walk with someone for a while.

What You’ll Do

Build a supportive, trusting relationship with a neighbor experiencing homelessness or housing instability

Meet regularly (in person or by phone) to check in, listen, and offer encouragement

Support participants as they navigate housing systems, paperwork, and decisions

Help reduce isolation by being a steady, caring presence

Take part in training, reflection, and ongoing support with MDC staff and fellow volunteers

Who This Is For

This role may be a good fit if you:

Care about people and believe everyone deserves dignity

Are a good listener and value real, honest connection

Can offer consistency more than perfection

Are curious, patient, and willing to learn

Want to do meaningful good in a simple, human way

No social services background is required. Life experience matters.

Time Commitment

Very flexible and designed to fit real life

Ideally about a few hours per week, on average

Scheduling is shared between volunteers and participants

Why People Volunteer

Volunteers often say this work:

Helps them slow down and reconnect with what really matters

Feels human and grounding in a busy, transactional world

Builds real community, one relationship at a time

Has a way of changing both people involved
