Volunteer: Volunteer Driver - CT Activities & Services

For more than 50 years, Community Thread’s ride services program has relied on volunteers. In fact, the program is not possible without volunteers! With an increase in our older adult population and the growth in the need for local transportation solutions, your support couldn’t be more valuable than it is today. Volunteer Drivers provide an essential service to neighbors in central and northern Washington County. Are you ready to help in a simple, flexible way?

Being a volunteer driver is truly a flexible option- tell us the days you’re generally available and communities to which you’re willing go, and when requests come in matching your interest, we reach out to you!Drivers receive requests by email or can (soon) view requests online, and they confirm the rides they can do.Rides currently take place Mondays-Fridays from roughly 8am-5pm.We expect at least a 3-day notice from a rider, so we are not typically reaching out to you with a same day or next day request. If there’s an emergency, we have a guide to help you deal with special scenarios, and our office staff can be available to support you. This role requires: 8 years of driving experience, a valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, proof of insurance, and ability to schedule rides using email and/or a simple online portal.
