Washington County Community Circles, Inc. (WCCC) seeks community members interested in restorative justice, particularly circles, to participate as a community member in Sentencing Circles. Washington County Community Circles, Inc. (WCCC) is an organization formed to address issues surrounding incidents of crime in Washington County through the restorative justice circle process. The primary participants are community members who strive to make their neighborhoods safer and more community-oriented by devoting time to work with offenders and victims. Circles within the justice system aim to identify the factors that contributed to criminal behavior and prevent the recurring behavior, while healing the harm caused by the crime. WCCC believes crimes with complex causes such as addiction, lack of education or lack of positive support can be better served with circles than the traditional model of punishment. For this placement, community members will be placed in the Stillwater community. Community members will participate in cases referred from the courts for sentencing. Community members will be asked to commit to at least one case. The opportunity may include some of the following tasks/activities: Participate in Application Circle to decide whether to accept the client into Circle Participate in weekly/bi-weekly Circles with clients from the courts Participate in Sentencing Circle Attend sentencing hearing after Sentencing Circle Attend Circles with clients post-sentencing For more information about WCCC, please visit www.peacemakingcircles.org
